Dixon Jones won an international competition to provide a concept design for a luxury apartment building in Moscow. Located 3 miles west of the Kremlin, the site lies on the banks of the Moskva River adjacent to the historic Novodevichy Convent. The close proximity of the UNESCO World Heritage site required a considered response to realising the client’s ambitious redevelopment brief within a sensitive historic context.
The scheme includes proposals for 94 luxury apartments with entrance halls, boutiques and cafes at street level. The winning scheme adopts the form of a crescent with the principle living spaces arranged to benefit from the spectacular river views. We have introduced the English residential crescent with the not unfamiliar Gallic title of ‘Une Maison, un Palais’. In this case instead of a palace confronting the ‘natural landscape’ of Bath, here the building addresses the Moskva River and the infinite and dramatic landscape beyond.
